Librarian - AccessLex Institute

Job Summary: 

The Librarian is a member of the Research Programs department in the Center for Legal Education Excellence and provides analytical support for the Company’s research and data initiatives. The position plays a key role in: a) contributing to the development and output of research and data tools that advance the Company’s strategic goals and mission of increasing access, affordability and the value of legal education, and b) providing research counsel and support to internal colleagues, grantees, and external stakeholders. 

Responsibilities and Duties: 

  • Serve as curator and key point of contact for the AccessLex Resource Collection (ARC) [https://arc.accesslex.org/], an online repository of articles and resources most relevant to the Company’s strategic objectives. These duties include:
    • Identifying and soliciting content for the ARC
    • Evaluating submissions using standard rubric and enlisting review from content experts, as needed
    • Optimize organizational efficiency of ARC records by establishing consistent, standardized use of relevant and intuitive keyword structures
    • Draft and review abstracts for articles and other materials housed in the ARC
    • Regularly review and update ARC records to ensure accuracy of copy, content and record URL links
    • Support grant programs manager with ensuring proper loading of grantee research papers
  • Assist with research for internally produced reports, briefs, white papers, academic articles, including the drafting of literature reviews
  • Edit and provide citation support for internally produced reports, briefs, white papers, and academic articles
  • Assist with placement of academic articles in journals
  • Other duties as assigned.

Candidate Requirements:

    • BACKGROUND EXPERIENCES. The  following are required unless otherwise noted:
  • Master of Library Science degree or its equivalent required; law degree preferred (a bachelor’s degree and three years’ of direct work experience can substitute for the master’s degree requirement)
  • Experience curating electronic resources required
  • Experience working in an academic library strongly preferred

 Position Type / Expected Hours of Work: 

This is a full-time, exempt position located in Washington, DC. The incumbent is expected to be present and accessible for at least 40 hours per week, subject to approved leave time, travel and other absences as described in the Employee Handbook or as otherwise agreed by the Company. The Company’s standard hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
