The LLSDC Executive Board meeting was held Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at noon at the GWU Law School. The meeting was called to order by our new President, Mary Kate Hunter. The Treasurer and Membership report was received and approved by the Board. Liaison reports were presented and board members noted they will check on and updating Committee names and members in the near future. The Board would also like to work with all committee chairpersons to get a budget report from each committee and to encourage committees with upcoming events to email to Laura Moorer so they can be included on the LLSDC website event calendar. The AALL conference was a resounding success and LLSDC’s table really stood out thanks to all the hard work by Alicia Pappas.  Congratulations to Lucy Gonzalez for being the winner of a free membership to LLSDC for the upcoming year. (Her name was drawn from a bowl of cards left at the LLSDC table at AALL). Mary Kate Hunter then discussed that there use to be a monthly LLSDC newsletter and the Board would like to bring this back; it will include highlights of upcoming events, summaries of past items of interest and a volunteer link. Alicia Pappas reported that the opening ceremony will be held towards the end of September and she will be sending out more details soon. She also confirmed that there will be a Rare Book Tour at the Library of Congress and an invitation will be emailed out to members very soon. There will be a strict limit of 20 members only for this event, so be sure to RSVP as soon as the invite goes out. The Board also received a proposal from member Rebecca Katz to start an Access to Justice Committee. The Board was all in favor of such a committee and more information about its first meeting will also be coming out in the next few weeks. Finally, the Board approved two scholarship applications received from Yazmin Morris and Steven Shearer. The meeting was then adjourned. The next Board Meeting will be held in October. We are looking forward to another great year!
