Please join us for LLSDC Closing Banquet and Sandy Peterson Lecture on Wednesday, May 27, 5:30 - 7:30pm at Catholic University Columbus School of Law. Our speaker will be Ross E. Davies, professor at George Mason University School of Law and editor--in-chief of The Green Bag, An Entertaining Journal of Law.

The Law Library Lights team is busy putting together a wonderful Spring 2009 issue, but it is also time to seek contributions for the Summer 2009 issue, whose theme is "The Spirit of Innovation."

In particular, I welcome any articles from LLSDC members that share stories about unique initiatives that they have tried over the past year to advance themselves and their work environments, as well as things that they would like to try in the future.

Of course, the theme for the Summer issue is a flexible one: so please, please do not hesitate to send an article idea to me even though it may not fit the theme for the issue.

The articles should be between 1,500 and 2,000 words, and the deadline for the Spring issue is Monday, June 15. If you have any concerns about meeting the June 15 deadline, please notify me and we can make the necessary arrangements.

In the meantime, please send me a brief (a few lines or a paragraph) summary of the subject matter that you would like to cover in your article.

Please contact me with any questions/concerns. Thanks so much for considering sharing your talent with our society’s publication.

AALL Annual Meeting Chapter VIP Program

LLSDC is planning to participate in the AALL Annual Meeting Chapter VIP Program and we need your help! The Chapter VIP Program allows each Chapter to invite up to two guests to attend the Annual Meeting for which AALL will provide complimentary full registration. Full registration includes a ticket to the Opening Event and the Closing Banquet.

The purpose of the Chapter VIP Program is to give each Chapter the opportunity to invite individuals from related fields to take part in our Association’s premier educational event. In the past, Chapter VIP guests have included academic librarians (non-law), law professors, library school faculty, judges, practicing attorneys, government officials and members of the news media. Please note that most Congressional hearings are no longer printed in tangible form by GPO, but may be available as print-on-demand items (202-512-1800). Federal depository libraries and the related Congressional committees are some the few places that receive selected tangible copies of Congressional hearings automatically. GPO Access makes available in PDF most Congressional committee material with certain committees excepted.

ILL SIS Bylaws Revision

Objectives:

This revision eliminates the secretary and treasurer positions, and better defines the duties and terms of office for the president and vice-president. These positions may be restored at any time via the same amendment process used to eliminate them.

To amend the bylaws, the majority of the SIS must approve the revision and 15 members must sign a petition that will be submitted to the Board for approval. This is your vote to approve or disapprove.

Current Bylaws –
ARTICLE V. Officers and Committees.
Section 1. Officers. The officers shall consist of a president, vice-president/president-elect, secretary and treasurer. The term of office for each officer shall be one year.

Section 2. Duties of the Officers. The president, vice-president/president-elect, and secretary, and treasurer shall perform the duties usually pertaining to their respective offices. Among such duties shall be the assessment of dues as approved by the Executive Board of the Law Librarians' Society of Washington, D.C., Inc.

Revised Bylaws –
Article V. Officers and Committees.
Section 1. Officers. The officers shall consist of a President and Vice-president/President-elect. The term of office for each officer shall be one year with the exception that the Vice-president/President-elect shall serve one year as Vice-president and the following year as President.

Section 2. Duties of the Officers. The President and Vice-President/President-elect shall perform such duties usually pertaining to their respective offices. Among such duties shall be:
a) Conducting regular meetings of the section;
b) Participation in the publications of the section and provision of other membership services that are beneficial to the section;
c) Arranging seminars and other educational events of interest to the section;
d) Preparing and submitting reports to the Board of LLSDC of budgets, accounts of expenditures, and receivables.
