Thomson Elementary School Book Drive for National Library Week

In honor of National Library Week, LLSDC is sponsoring a Book Drive for Strong John Thomson Elementary School at 12th & L St NW. This public neighborhood school serves nearly 400 students in grades pk-6th. These students face many challenges -- 53% are
learning English as a second language and 79% are economically disadvantaged. To learn more about Thomson Elementary please visit their website.

ALL new or gently used children's books from pre-K to sixth grade are welcome, including scary/ghost stories, sports books, books on African and Asian countries and animal books. Multiple copies are great. You can also donate money in the form of a check made out to Thomson School which will be used to buy books at a 40% discount from their distributor.

To get a sense of books needed at Thomson, look at or purchase directly from the Strong John Thomson Amazon wish list. Remember, if you order books from Amazon, they can be sent directly to the school. New titles are added all the time!

Send out an e-mail to your office to collect books during Library Week in a box in in your library. After the drive, from April 21-25th, drop off books at McKenna Long & Aldridge LLP, Lower Level Mailroom, 1900 K Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20006 or Thompson Coburn at 1909 K ST NW Suite 600 . You can also drop them off at the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation, 1200 K ST NW, Washington, D.C. 20005, if you call Lynn or Judy at 202-326-400 x6061 from the lobby phone.

This a win-win situation for the school and for the library community. The children are eager readers and any contributions are welcome. Donate one of your elementary school favorites, help Thomson School and spread the love of reading to our young people.
